Each year Melissa Theatre participates in the Dallas Summer Musicals High School Musical Theatre Awards. This program was created to celebrate high school musical theatre, and draws participants from all over the states of Texas, Arkansas, and Oklahoma. This program does not distinguish between school classifications, and the vast majority of participating schools are 6A.

This March, DSM sent three judges to attend performances of Melissa Theatre’s musical Curtains to evaluate and decide if the production should be nominated for any awards. The nominations were announced Monday morning, and Melissa Theatre came away with 12 nominations!

The categories are the following:

  • Best Musical
  • Best Actor – Logan Lowery
  • Best Supporting Actor – Thaddeus Baker
  • Best Supporting Actress – Madison Courtney
  • Best Featured Performer – Kyah Wells
  • Best Ensemble
  • Best Crew & Technical Execution
  • Best Direction
  • Best Music Direction
  • Best Scenic Design
  • Best Lighting Design
  • Best Costume Design

Melissa was fortunate to receive more nominations than any other competing school, with Denton Guyer coming closest with 10 nominations. You can see the full list of nominations here.
