“We Don’t Talk About Bruno” from Disney’s Colombian fable “Encanto” is breaking the internet by becoming the first #1 song of 2022. From trending on TikTok to becoming Disney’s highest performing song since Pocahontas’ “Colors of the Wind” in 1995, this song is raising the bar for Disney’s future in the music industry.

Five weeks after debuting, “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” hit the top spot on Billboard Hot 100 and became the first Hot 100 leader for the song’s main writer Lin-Manuel Miranda. Currently, the song has been at #1 for two weeks and has been on the charts for six weeks. This song is only the second Disney song to be this successful.

Encanto’s “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” is about the Madrigal family’s uncle Bruno, whose visions have brought the family many troubles, though there is more meaning to the song than you would think. The song features many characters in the movie telling Mirabel of their struggles from Bruno’s predictions and visions. It also depicts how Bruno felt alone and isolated from the family through their frustration about his visions.

Many people around the world can relate to this movie because it represents a wide range of skin tones and the Latin America community. One of the most popular TikTok trends is inspired by “Encanto,” where TikTokers are copying Mariano’s walk from the film. This song has also been used a lot on TikTok recently with over 403,000 videos featuring “We Don’t Talk About Bruno,” and the hashtag #encanto has 13.8 billion views.
