Cardinal Brief: March 25-29

Cardinal Update

  • BI-DISTRICT SOCCER PLAYOFFS: Congratulations to the varsity girls soccer team for advancing to the playoffs! They will play Red Oak for the bi-district title on March 25 at 5:30 p.m. at Mesquite Memorial Stadium. Melissa will be the visiting team. Mesquite does have a clear bag policy. Tickets can be purchased HERE the day of the event.
  • LETTER JACKETS: Fittings for letter jackets will take place on March 25 during Mega Lunch. If students believe they qualify for a jacket, they should speak to their coach/sponsor to have their names submitted.
  • PROM GUESTS: Guest approval forms for Prom will be available in the front office starting Monday, March 25. Only seniors may bring a guest not from MHS. Seniors only need to complete this form if their guest does not attend Melissa High School or is not a MHS junior or senior.
  • COLLEGE READINESS: The MHS counseling department has partnered with The Princeton Review to host a series of online presentations on College Readiness Hot Topics. Students can find the registration links on the MHS College and Career webpage under the Helpful Links for Postsecondary Planning section. The next presentation will be “SAT, ACT, or Both?” on March 26 at 6 p.m. The deadline to register is Sunday, March 24.
  • ACT PRACTICE TEST:  The MHS counseling department has also partnered with The Princeton Review to host an Online ACT Practice Test on Saturday, March 30 at 9:00 a.m. Students can find the registration link on the MHS College and Career webpage under the Helpful Links for Postsecondary Planning section. The deadline to register is March 28.
  • MHS MAGAZINE SUBMISSIONS: The brand new MHS Fine Arts Magazine is currently accepting submissions of short stories, poems, essays or any other forms of creative writing. This is a great opportunity for students to showcase their work to peers and the entire community of Melissa. All submissions are due by April 3. Click HERE to make a submission.
  • SENIORS: Cap and gown photos are now available to view and purchase through CADY Photography. The deadline to order to receive the items before graduation is April 4.
  • SCHOLARSHIPS: Seniors should check the Scholarships web page frequently for opportunities for financial assistance for college.
  • 2024-25 COURSE REQUESTS: Students and guardians can now view course requests for the 2024-25 school year in HAC. Click here for more information. Students wanting to make a change must complete the MHS Course Change Request Form by May 10 at 4 p.m.
  • IB INSIGHTS: The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (DP) is coming to Melissa High School in the fall of 2025. An ideal IBDP student would be someone who demonstrates a strong commitment to academic excellence, possesses a curious and inquisitive mind, embraces challenges with resilience, engages actively in their learning community, demonstrates intercultural understanding and empathy, and exhibits a passion for making positive contributions to society.  Enrollment in the 2-year program is open to all who want to take on the challenge. Miranda Sirota is a senior this year at Melissa High School. This is her third year writing for the Cardinal Connection. Miranda is also involved in other extracurriculars including Band, HOSA, NHS, academic UIL, and Book Club. Outside of school, she enjoys reading, cooking, and binge-watching her favorite TV shows. After graduating, Miranda plans to study Dental Hygiene to become a registered hygienist.
