Cardinal Update

  • SOLAR ECLIPSE INFORMATION: Click HERE to view Melissa ISD’s Viewing Information for the Total Solar Eclipse on April 8.
  • PROM 2024: The theme for the junior/senior prom this year is “Garden Gala,” and the event will be held April 13 from 7 to 11 p.m. at the Sheraton Hotel in McKinney. Tickets are on sale for $75 now through April 12 during A Lunch in the Student Union. Click HERE for more information including the guidelines and link to purchase tickets online.
  • BLOOD DRIVE:  A blood drive will be held on April 12 in front of Cardinal Stadium (by the middle school) from noon to 5 p.m. This will be one last opportunity for students to work towards earning their red graduation cord. However, students will NOT be excused from class for the drive but can go if they have early release or after the school day ends. To schedule an appointment, visit this LINK.
  • COLOR GUARD AUDITIONS: Students interested in trying out for Color Guard for next school year, auditions will be held April 15-17 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. in the Band Hall. No experience is necessary! Questions? Email [email protected].
  • COLLEGE READINESS: The Melissa HS Counseling Department has partnered with The Princeton Review to host a series of online presentations on College Readiness hot topics. Students may find the registration links on the MHS College and Career webpage under the Helpful Links for Postsecondary Planning section. The next presentation will be “The Grades that Get You in College” on April 16 at 6 p.m. The deadline to register is April 14.
  • US HISTORY EOC EXAM REVIEW: Juniors received an email this past week containing lots of review material for the upcoming STAAR US History EOC Exam, which will be administered on April 22. Click HERE to access the review.
  • SCHOLARSHIPS: Seniors should check the Scholarships web page frequently for opportunities for financial assistance for college.
  • SPRING GAME DAY: The Melissa Cardinals return to the field for Spring Game Day on Saturday, May 10, in preparation for the upcoming football season. The game is FREE to attend. Gates open at 7:30 p.m. at Coach Kenny Deel Stadium with community tailgating starting at 5:30 p.m. Students in Pre-K through 5th grade can participate in the ultimate “Game Day Experience” with a varsity football player or cheerleader.   • 2024-25 COURSE REQUESTS: Students and guardians can now view course requests for the 2024-25 school year in HAC. Click here for more information. Students wanting to make a change must complete the MHS Course Change Request Form by May 10 at 4 p.m.
  • FINAL EXAMS: Spring semester exams will be given to 9th-11th grade students the last week of school, May 24-30. Click HERE for more information and the schedule.
  • CARDINAL CAMPS: Melissa ISD offers a variety of sports and fine arts camps during the summer break from school. Cardinal Camps are led by the coaching staff of Melissa High School. Click HERE to learn more and register for a camp.
  • IB INSIGHTS: The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) is coming in the fall of 2025! Everyone is invited to an informational parent meeting on Monday, April 8, at 6 p.m. Join us at the District Office located at 1904 Cooper Street to learn more about the program. Topics to be addressed include:
    • What is IB? – Gain an understanding of the IB Programme and the philosophies that guide it.
    • General overview of the program – Learn about the curriculum and assessment methods
    • Lastly – a final call for 2024-25 GT Seminar course interest – Discover more about the GT Seminar course and how it can complement the IB journey.

Miranda Sirota is a senior this year at Melissa High School. This is her third year writing for the Cardinal Connection. Miranda is also involved in other extracurriculars including Band, HOSA, NHS, academic UIL, and Book Club. Outside of school, she enjoys reading, cooking, and binge-watching her favorite TV shows. After graduating, Miranda plans to study Dental Hygiene to become a registered hygienist.
