OAP makes history

OAP has made history. The play Peter and the Starcatcher is officially the first play from here to make it to the state UIL contest.

“I knew that eventually our hard work would get us here,” Jacob Gallimore, said. “We have worked very hard on ensemble contribution, getting the whole cast involved to really make the story come to life.”

The directors, cast, and crew have been preparing since January, with their rehearsals lasting about three hours a day. The cast practices during the period, after school, and sometimes during the weekends.

“It is so rewarding to qualify for state. All of that hard work has finally paid off, but we still are not done.” Gallimore said.

Other than the group placing as a whole, the cast has won many single awards as well. Bella Walker, Best Actress; Jacob Gallimore and Justin Berkland, All Star Cast; Jacob Gallimore, Best Actor; Drew Richardson, Honorable Mention All Star Cast; and Braelyn Van Schepen, Outstanding Technician, and many more.

“I almost cried when they called my name for best actress,” Bella Walker said. “It felt like all my hard work was being recognized and I felt on top of the world.”

The state competition is scheduled for April 23 at the Round Rock ISD Performing Arts Center with the tickets being $14 per session. With Melissa being first show in the second session.
