Cardinal Update

  • Congratulations to the state SkillsUSA participants who competed in Corpus Christi March 31-April 1. Tyler Mathieson is the STATE CHAMPION in Technology Computer Applications, which qualifies him to go to the national contest in Atlanta this summer. Kaiya Griggs earned a superior rating for her Cosmetology – Fantasy hair styling project.
  • Congratulations to Varsity Color Guard who placed 1st in the Scholastic A Division at the NTCA Championships held at Lake Ridge HS on April 1.
  • Congratulations to the powerlifting team! Senior Peyton Knight medaled with 2nd place in his weight class at the state meet held on March 25. Senior Brandon Ward also medaled in 3rd place in his weight class, and Brandon also set a new state record for squatting 905 lbs. Sophomore Owen Hollenbeck competed at the state meet, as well, and set some new personal records.
  • Congratulations to Melissa Theatre’s One Act Play “A Monster Calls” on advancing to regionals, which will be held on April 22 at Arlington ISD’s CVPA-PAC. The cast and crew competed at area on March 29. Individual awards were as follows: Outstanding Technician – Ella Nye, Stage Manager; Honorable Mention All Star Cast – Makenna Worsham-Bowen as Monster; All Star Cast – Kyah Wells as Mum; and Best Performer Award – Bailey Thornburg as Conor.
  • Congratulations to the following juniors who were selected through an application and interview process to represent Melissa High School at the summer leadership opportunity, Camp RYLA: David Stoots, Karson Maynard and Ezoza Ruziboeva.
  • Blood Drive: Student Council will host a spring blood drive on Wednesday, April 12. Mrs. Tyner will email students a QR code link to register, or go to the Red Cross website to register for a time. Any student 16 or younger may pick up a parent permission slip outside Mrs. Tyner’s room A124.
  • PROM 2023: This year’s prom with “A Night in New York” theme will be held April 29. Tickets go on sale April 3 for $70. Click here for more information–link to buy shirts (deadline April 7), dress code, guest guidelines and more.
  • SCHOLARSHIPS: Seniors, visit the MHS scholarships page frequently to earn money for college and even vocational training.
