Super Bowl LVI was played Sunday, Feb. 13, in the SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif. This year’s contestants were the Los Angeles Rams and the Cincinnati Bengals. It was a close rivalry all the way to the end with the Rams finally claiming the victory, 23-20.

Many fans tune into the Super Bowl annually for halftime entertainment. This year’s show featured some West Coast classics: Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, 50 Cent, Eminem, Mary J. Blige, and Kendrick Lamar. With 112.3 million viewers watching, the songs featured were “Next Episode,” “California Love,” “In Da Club,” “Family Affair,” “No More Pain,” “Alright,” “m.A.A.d. City,” “Forget about Dre,” “Lose Yourself,” and “Still D.R.E.” Fans posting on social media during the second half of the game seemed to love the performances, especially Gen Xers, according to one Newsweek article.

And, of course, fans love to watch the Super Bowl commercials, too. This year a 30-second ad sold for a record $6.5 million. Not all ads were big hits with viewers, but some did spark conversation on social media as can be viewed in this article by the New York Post.

The Rams have now posted a 2-3 record in Super Bowl wins. They lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers in Super Bowl XIV but came back to beat the Tennessee Titans in 1999. They also lost to the New England Patriots in both 2002 and 2018.

In total, 17 players that competed in Super Bowl LVI were from Texas. Out of the 17, nine were on the Rams team. Quarterback Mathew Stafford, originally from Highland Park High School in Dallas, was the Detroit Lions’ first draft pick in the 2009 season, and he stayed with the franchise until the 2020 season when he was traded to the Rams.

Another star player from Texas is linebacker Von Miller. Miller is originally from DeSoto, and after his high school career, he attended Texas A&M University starting in 2007 to 2010. After his impressive college years, he was drafted in 2011 to the Denver Broncos where he played until 2021 when he was traded to the Los Angeles Rams.

Some other Texas honorable mentions are Ogbonnia Okoronkwo, Bobby Evans, A’Shawn Robinson, Bobby Brown, Travin Howard, Justin Hollins, and Joseph Noteboom.

This year’s Super Bowl MVP was Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp, who scored two touchdowns during the game. He had one of the most prolific NFL receiving seasons since Calvin Johnson, who was also led by Matthew Stafford. Kupp now leads the Rams yards after catch with 846 and with 1,947 yards for the whole season, putting him in second place for the most in one season right behind Calvin Johnson, having 1,964 yards in 2012.

After attending the Rams first Super Bowl parade since 2000, head coach Sean McVay announced to “Run it back” with the current Rams roster.

“We’ve built a super team,” he said in hopes of gaining another shot at a Super Bowl win.
