Football Stars Receive Offers From Colleges

Nick Lanier, Editor

MHS linebacker Gunnar Murphy, and tackle Alfonso Viramontes have been the recipients of offers from colleges wishing that they join their football teams in the fall of 2017. On behalf of the Red Banner we would like to formally acknowledge these offers and praise our athletes for their stellar performances this season.

Murphy was Melissa´s leading receiver this season with 38 catches for 626 yards and 8 touchdowns. Moreover, he was the leading tackler with 91 stops. Murphy said that he is “extremely blessed to have received offers to play at the next level. Very few are given this opportunity and I plan on making the most of it. “The 6´2¨, 225lb man has received many offers to play college football. Amongst his offers are Benedictine College in Kansas and Southwest Baptist in Missouri. He also has been approached by some junior colleges such as Cisco College near Abilene. “I want to be a game warden so on top of the football, I am going to take some criminal justice courses to make my dream come true.” We would all like to wish Gunnar the best at college starting in the fall.
Viramontes has received offers from some junior colleges too, including Cisco. A key member of the incredible offensive line last year, the team will definitely miss the 6´5¨, 290lb tackle in 2017. He was responsible for 15 pancake blocks and 27 knockdowns for the year. He explained that he likes to think that “what doesn’t kill you doesn’t make you stronger, it only makes you said and angry. The only things that make you stronger are friends, family and satisfaction of hard work. I’m blessed to have received offers to play college, it makes me feel great to know my hard work has paid off.” Here at the Red Banner, we would like to wish Alfonso the best as he heads to college in the fall.
